Target group

This is a very practical program based totally on work related to the participants. Prior to the program, the facilitator will request examples of work the participants are required to review. Participants will then work through many examples to identify enhancements and how to improve them.

Learning objectives

At the completion of this program, participants will be able to identify specific ways to improve the readability and comprehension of written work submitted for review.

This program will cover: 

  • 10 tips for creating great writers in your team
  • The 4 sweeps of reviewing
    • 1. Structure - using a spidergram to generate a logical flow
    • 2. Appropriate content for the reader - relevant and appropriate information to match the decision-making criteria for the reader
    • 3. Wordsmithing - the 6 principles to increase readability:
    • Short sentences
    • Main message first
    • Conversational style
    • Active voice
    • Use fewer words
    • Use of pronouns and tone
    • 4. Cosmetics - correcting typos, formatting and technicalities
